Christmas Came Early

This morning, I ran out of the house in my pyjamas as soon as I found out that the package from my best friends has come! I was truly ecstatic & extremely grateful for having the friends that I do. This could not have come at a better time to cheer me up, and tear up, at the same time. Merci beaucoup mes meilleurs amis!

Nordstrom’s changeroom’s waiting room (got that?) is extremely posh! I suppose they have done right in making sure the husbands and boyfriends are waiting in comfort, or broke girlfriends like I.

Straying away from my usual black and loose fitting clothes results in this. For a more refined side of my style, I wore a bright jumper with a subtly coloured button down and a pair of classic jeans. To escape a rather ‘basic palette’, the addition of a statement necklace gives an interesting neckline. Brown, leather accessories are a must in any woman’s closet to finish off an outfit.

Stress, Evanesco!

After my last final this morning, stress has (temporarily) disappeared from my life. To celebrate, I went to fangirl over Legolas… I mean, watch The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies! For someone who is not the biggest fan of movies with plenty of war scenes, this movie is a definite exception! You must see it and I’ll gladly re-watch it with you ; )

For today’s casual outfit, I resorted to denim on denim. Personally, I find that the best ways to wear this trend are a) Pairing separates that are of identical shade for a cohesive look or 2) Contrasting with black or white denim with the regular hue of blue. Finally, stick to basics and neutral colours for the rest of the outfit to not distract from the tough, denim look.

Never again will I order regular nachos if I have the option of pulled pork. This was the best movie food I’ve ever had!

And for dinner, Lebanese seesh.

Lunch Date: ‘Roman Vibe’

Today’s attire was not the easiest to walk in and got my family and friends wondering where I was off to. My mom thought I was to attend a party, a friend felt as if I came from Italy and another explained it with the words ‘Roman Vibe’, which the latter I’m most fond of. It’s really difficult for me to leave the house without looking overdressed because it’s just the way I am. I love to dress up, make my old clothes appear new by mix & matching and I hope it inspires other people to enjoy fashion as much as I do. To end all curiosities, my day consisted of a lunch date and attending Japanese class.

We made a first visit to Oak Tree Tavern in Kensington and I ordered the classic fish & chips and beer combo. The batter of the fish was well executed, though the fries could have used less salt. As for the beer, which was Newcastle Brown Ale, it was one of the best I’ve had for a dark choice.SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESThere is something about matching a long sleeve top with a maxi skirt that I’m very fond of. Perhaps it is most comparable to the fashion during the Victorian Era: feminine and elegant. Since the top & bottom half pieces are both voluminous, the addition of the belt cinches in the waist to balance out the proportions.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESSAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES Although I’ve mentioned finding inspiration from the Victorian Era, which is British, my statement earring overpowers with the ‘Roman Vibe’. Yellow for Hong Kong

As many of you are probably already well aware, there is a pro-democracy protest occurring in Hong Kong. It hasn’t been pretty for protestors that had to face tear gas and stand under the heat stroke or rain for hours. A friend of mine invited me to wear yellow in support for Hong Kong and despite not attending UBC any longer, I was more than willing to show my support from afar. I pray for all the protestors working hard for what they believe in!SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES1) Long Sleeve Shirt: Borrowed from Sister | 2) ‘Skirt’ (which is actually a dress): Wet Seal | 3) Belt: Gifted | 4) Booties: Nine West

Jumping for Autumn

Autumn is my favourite season: the leaves fall beautifully and crisps dry, rustling, the sun shines brightly though not scorching and layers can finally be worn! For today’s outfit, I wore denim on denim for a bold statement paired with the colours of nature: brown and green. I opted for an all blue and white outfit to draw attention to my boots that has an interesting, yet oddly placed cut-out.
SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESSAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESI tried to do the classic ‘throw the leaves’ picture yet failed miserably with my questionable expression.SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESSAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES These lace socks added that extra, pretty detail. Geometry and Patterns

Foremost, excuse the amateur, overexposed/dark photos because I lacked a photographer (my sister) today.

Mixing different shapes and patterns is one of the trickiest things to do, yet when well executed, is purely genius. I am still experimenting with this trend and it is indeed difficult. For an attempt, I paired this geometric button down with my printed sling hobo bag; a classic combination that I’ve tried before. Though the addition of colourful and geometric earrings made this outfit a little more of crazy… in a good way (at least I’d like to think so).

What I love about these earrings is that they are by locally made (by Adrian Martinus in collaboration with Anne Tranholm) and eco-friendly because they are made from recycled materials! This picture does very little justice at such an incredible piece.

Non-Vintage Vintage

Good vintage pieces are not easy to come across, but who says you can’t make modern-day clothing appear as if they were from 10 years ago?

An oversized souvenir tee paired with loosely fit straight jeans is a vintage classic ensemble that I decided to recreate. To keep it consistent, I slid into my exhausted, brown boots.

Double A

Another day, another button down. Button downs are one of my favourites because one could wear it both casually and in formal occasions. It is a classic and timeless piece that can be worn all year: by itself in the summer or underneath a knit sweater for when the weather becomes cooler. I am especially fond of this short sleeved button down because of its crisp collar, shoulder padded sleeves and pastel pink colour! Supporting Canada with Double A: American Apparel.

Tres Marias

Growing up, my mom would dress my sisters and I in matching outfits but as cute as that was, we inevitably grew up and developed our own sense of styles.

1. Me

My style can be best described as sophisticated with an edge. I like pieces that have plenty of character but in its materials durable and retains hints of elegance. It is of utmost importance for me to keep everything balanced. I like to mix prints and textures with basics, incorporate both light and dark colours and be watchful of lengths. In this outfit, I particularly focused on maintaining balance in skin exposure. Personally, I do not like to wear tank top with shorts but instead, with jeans. My style secret: I like to buy sale and vintage!

2. Second Sister

My second sister has an affinity for wearing dark colours with tints of red, military boots and generally, comfortable attire. She is best described as edgy and is inspired by menswear. Her casual attires are usually oversized and laid-back but when it comes to more formal occasions, she can be seen rocking body-con dresses and high heels. Her style secret: Black works with everything!SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES 1) T-Shirt: Rihanna line from Hard Rock NY | 2) Jeans: Guess 3) Cross-body bag: Kate Spade | 4) Rings: ALDO | 5) Watch: Skagen Denmark | 6) Aviators: Ray Ban | 7) Boots: Enzo Angiolini for Nine West

3. Eldest Sister

My eldest sister’s style can be best described as classic, yet on trend. She likes to wear pieces that are timeless and comfortable, mainly neutral in colours and simple silhouettes. She can make Converses and tees look chic by adding expensive details. Because of her petite frame, she is able to snatch up cute pieces from the junior’s department, one of her biggest style secrets! Fun fact: She takes the photographs for my blog!SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES1) Patterned Dress: GAP | 2) Jumper: ZARA Kids (similar here) | 3) Sneakers: Converse | 4) Cross-body bag: BCBG Max Azria | 5) Watch: Burberry

Indulging in Summer

The scorching weather called for minimal fabric and indulgence in the last month of summer by wearing classic white with orange and gold accents. To play with lengths, I wore my cross-body bag that sits longer than my romper to elongate my height by a tad bit.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

How am I suppose to call my bae now? I kid myself xD

I usually opt out from buying backless pieces because the cut is usually too low, but when I found this a year ago (on sale too) and tried it on, the amount of exposure maintained class without losing the element of interesting.
