Knit Racerback

I’m starting to fall in love with knits, but when it comes to maintenance, I’m not much of a fan. I have ruined way too many, expensive pieces of clothing due to laziness. Although most ‘Dry Clean Only’ items are made of the best fabrics, they are quite inconvenient.

Enough exposure of my Snorlax personality and more on this knit racerback. Knit is a technique often used for thick sweaters, but have you heard of a (little) see-through, racerback? And in a mixture of blue & red? I’m sold. This is why Club Monaco is one of my favourite stores.

DSC04383Not many people wear halter necks because one must find the ‘right’ kind in order to rock it. Personally, I find that my shoulders are on the broader side. If the straps on this top were any thinner, my shoulders would appear broader. The depth of halter tops is another factor to consider. Some styles are made with round necks and this constrictive construction is not flattering to shorter necks. Therefore, if you want an illusion of a longer neck, choose pieces with a deeper neckline. Try on & experiment with several halter tops in order to learn and find what’s ideal for your own body type.DSC04391DSC04392DSC04386

On a completely different side note, I went to Don Day again! Samgyeopsal wrapped with jalapeño and gochujang is so good, but incredibly spicy!DSC04401 Oh Calgary, you looked pretty tonight.DSC04397

Le Mur is Now Less Hideous

My industrial mur needed a little help so I brought back 1st year university’s polaroid wall. I also miss so many beautiful faces and good memories thus, this is a perfect reminder. Maybe I’ll become less of a grumpier person. Maybe.

For the Love of Vintage

Having lived in Vancouver, it has exposed me to lots of different ideas: healthy living, kale-eating, hipster loving and vintage shopping. Or you could say it has converted me to an almost full-pledged Vancouverite at heart because I’m all of the above. Fun fact: I still walk at a quick pace.

I live in Calgary now and prior to moving back, I feared that the transition would be difficult. It was and most especially on a personal level. But the anticipated change in lifestyle due to the lack thereof of diversity in services and shopping also contributed to my growing concern in ‘fitting in’. What was I to do without my favourite thrift/vintage/consignment store, Front and Company!? I was afraid to become entirely zombified of mall clothing. Call me hipster if you must, I’ve accepted it 😛

I’m just kidding…

I mean no offense to people who prefer shopping in malls or outlets. I just wish that they would try out thrift, consignment or vintage shopping before rejecting it. Although I do understand if they refuse to because they have been pre-worn by strangers. But in my defence, though rare, some of the items are actually brand new. If you remain unconvinced, vintage bags are at the very least an item that would be worth looking into.

Vintage shopping is fun because there is so much diversity and character in each piece. Since vintage pieces are usually one of a kind, the struggle in finding a size and/ or it being in good shape can sometimes be frustrating. If luck is on your side, this is when you find gems. Figuratively.

Enough chitter chatter and let me finally share one of my favourite stores in Calgary, Used House of Vintage! I have visited one of their locations in Granville Street Vancouver, though I found that I prefer this one in Calgary, down 17th Ave. I would guess their products is a reflection of whoever manages it and I could say my taste is more compatible with that of Calgary’s.

Their products are unique (as expected) and well-picked, the store is charming with its clean, well-organized layout and the customer service is awesome! In my two visits, I have managed to spend at least 30 minutes going around the store and chat with the sweet saleslady. I have failed to ask her name, twice, because I get too excited in talking to her about fashion and vintage stuff. I rarely meet people who share such an addiction… so you can understand, right? I’m also terrible with names.

I have been on the hunt for black, high waisted shorts or pants as I am itching to try crop tops without exposing my non-existent six-pack. I was ecstatic to find a pair of vintage Lee shorts, perfect in wash and fit, though it was sadly too short. In the end, I opted out in buying it but instead, finally snatched up my first crop top, an American Apparel. An incentive to find the perfect black, high waisted jeans I suppose?

At the checkout, a vintage Moschino bucket bag attracted my attention. My growing love for black and it being accentuated with gold hardware did not help in trying to resist from asking to take a look. What harm would a peek do?

Long story short, the answer is empty pockets.

It’s better in action 😉 SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESThis last picture was not in the vintage store, but another. I just failed to take a good picture of my ootd in Used House of Vintage.

Monochromatic and Bloody

Five hours of insufficient sleep later, with lingering feelings from Phantom of the Opera the night prior, one can only dress in monochrome and bloody tints.

Everyone wakes up one morning knowing that it will be a t-shirt and jeans kind of day. Well, today was my day. It’s a surprise that I even managed to get out of bed.

With scenes from Phantom of the Opera still fresh in my mind, I may well continue sorrowing at its dramatic plot with this black V-neck paired with my striped skinnies. Not wanting to look any duller with my already sunken eyes, a much needed call for colour brought bloody tints of red to my lips and feet. Since the stripes on my jeans are thin and narrow, it does not clash with my shoes but instead, attracts interest to the play in patterns.

To indicate caution for today’s highly irritable nature, it was appropriate that I wear my bullet necklace.

Bright Hue

This morning, I made the mandatory visit to Sephora to receive my yearly, free gift. In order to do so, I must purchase an item and since I’ve been wanting to try an orange lipstick, I braved ahead to finally do it. There were so many choices but I was particularly captured by none other than Marc Jacobs, especially after seeing the newly released line of lipsticks that looked like crayons. Not only was the packaging adorable, the bright hue of Crush perfectly matched my unexpected style. I tried it on and fell in love!

The consistency of the lipstick is smooth and hydrating and the matte finish is perfect for its vibrancy.  Aside from this, it is ‘kiss-proof’, leaving no stain in my glass cup. It won’t be a surprise if I come back to purchase another lipstick from this collection!

I did receive my free gift at the checkout and an additional freebie, a DKNY perfume. I was very impressed with the free gift: a MAKE UP FOR EVER lipstick and mascara, the mascara containing a generous amount!  image

I did not bother removing the lipstick after trying it on and now, I’m probably blinding some of the customers’ eyes while I work.

Dainty with an Edge

I woke up this morning with the intention to go for the long overdue run. I have been awfully busy with school and work that my exercise routine has recently been on hold. So, I went for a jog and missed the bus, leaving me to have a good excuse to dress up 😛

One of my favourite things to do when styling is juxtaposing. Today, I paired dainty and edgy pieces together to create an ‘all-American’ look.

The delicate and sheer material of my button down tucked into the heavy, corduroy material of my shorts creates contrast and balance that attracts interest. To add a little more personality into my outfit, I accessorized with a vibrant head wrap and matching lip colour to tie it all together. Dainty pieces such as my watch and bracelet finished off the outfit.
