Stress, Evanesco!

After my last final this morning, stress has (temporarily) disappeared from my life. To celebrate, I went to fangirl over Legolas… I mean, watch The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies! For someone who is not the biggest fan of movies with plenty of war scenes, this movie is a definite exception! You must see it and I’ll gladly re-watch it with you ; )

For today’s casual outfit, I resorted to denim on denim. Personally, I find that the best ways to wear this trend are a) Pairing separates that are of identical shade for a cohesive look or 2) Contrasting with black or white denim with the regular hue of blue. Finally, stick to basics and neutral colours for the rest of the outfit to not distract from the tough, denim look.

Never again will I order regular nachos if I have the option of pulled pork. This was the best movie food I’ve ever had!

And for dinner, Lebanese seesh.

(Mad-Eye) Moody is Set Free

The cloudy day is too bright for me, as if I was trapped away by an impostor for a long time and finally released… like (Mad-Eye) Moody.

I am still obsessed with wearing a ‘unitard’ that I wouldn’t be surprised if I actually bought one in the future. I tried my best to dress ‘normal’ today by initially putting on a pea coat and scarf, but I found that I don’t feel comfortable dressing in bright colours anymore. The bright pink details should be sufficient, right? Because whoever saw an aspiring, part-time poet in colour? I think my style is currently in sync with my poems: dark and sarcastic.

On a more technical note, my advocacy for the unitard effect, in all its simplicity & chicness, is a great way to showcase interesting pieces. A colour blocked coat like mine, or one that has pattern, are good examples.

Ghosts Live Here

Apparently there lives a half genie & half witch among us. If you’ve seen one as such, please inform me. If I’m not mistaken, they’re also part ghost.

No, but I’m honestly very entertained at how a mixture of movement + flash in the dark results in a ghost-like effect. This is what happens when I’m left alone at home, with time in my hands, and an exhausted mind to even realize that I’ve almost jeopardized my perfectly, good ankles.

60s Knit

Inspired by Free People and stuck in 60s mod, voilà! But who can forget iconic Twiggy and her spider lashes? Sure, I’ll never be as pretty as her, but she is such an inspiration that the least I can do is imitation. So a couple layers of mascara later….
DSC03657 DSC03651 For those non-Canadians or simply do not know, Remembrance Day is soon. It is when we commemorate soldiers that fought and died for our country. As a sign of appreciation and respect, we wear these red poppies. Canada wouldn’t be as it is today if it wasn’t for their brave hearts.DSC03660DSC03673Back to a lighter note, I thrifted this ‘made in Italy‘ sweater for $24! How crazy of a steal is that? It is a size too big, but the oversize fit just adds to the ‘cozy factor’. And if that’s not enough knit, why not throw in these thigh-high socks.

Though the softness of all these knits make me appear friendly and in all honesty, I’m not the friendliest. So as to keep my guard up, perhaps a spiked, statement necklace and stack of geometric earrings will help.DSC03669 DSC036791) Sweater: Thrifted (similar here) | 2) Corduroy Shorts: American Apparel | 3) Tights: Claire’s (similar here) | 4) Thigh-Highs: Free People (Gifted) | 5) Oxfords: Arnold Churgin (similar here) | 6) Necklace: Local Store in Granville St. Vancouver (similar here) | 7) Earrings: F21 & DIY

British Invasion: 221B

Recently, I have been subconsciously inspired by British style: simple, yet has an indescribable charm. Perhaps I am lacking the eye candy of a beautiful British man who lives in 221B who’s got me poppin’ my collar. To those who are currently suffering from such deprivation, I am with you. Perhaps a third time of watching all the seasons isn’t such a bad idea… if only my GPA didn’t need a little more attention.
DSC03546I have absolutely no idea what my bag says for it’s in Indonesian, but my best guess would be that it’s rice related because it’s recycled from the material used in rice bags.

I needed a little day off from everything and the beautiful, chilly weather has got me in the mood for a little exploration around one of my favourite neighbourhoods: Kensington. It is full of art, diversity and innovation: an energy I find refreshing and inspiring. A little retail therapy at a local store, Silla, and a visit to possibly my favourite café, Vendome, was my way of getting away from it all. Escapism would be incomplete without immersing myself in self-reflection and poetry. There is nothing more calming than finding time to ‘ajoute life’ into paper. DSC03536 DSC03535 1 DSC035482A plus tard et avec l’amour!

Camouflaging

20141013_152522For Thanksgiving, my family and I went to the park to take pictures of the beautiful scenery. Not even realizing until later, I was dressed as if intended to camouflage against the colours of nature (with the exception of my bright hat).

Jumping for Autumn

Autumn is my favourite season: the leaves fall beautifully and crisps dry, rustling, the sun shines brightly though not scorching and layers can finally be worn! For today’s outfit, I wore denim on denim for a bold statement paired with the colours of nature: brown and green. I opted for an all blue and white outfit to draw attention to my boots that has an interesting, yet oddly placed cut-out.
SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESSAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESI tried to do the classic ‘throw the leaves’ picture yet failed miserably with my questionable expression.SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESSAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES These lace socks added that extra, pretty detail. (Fall)ing for Winter

It’s not Avril this month but Calgary weather made us fools with an all day snowstorm, not to mention some hail. Where did fall go? My family and friends were a bit concerned at the my lack of preparedness for the low temperature, but I’m not putting my fall clothes to waste. Layering is key: to look chic and stay warm. A classic wool/cashmere blend overtop a knit, collared shirt with a statement necklace asks for attention. For a little element of punk rock, these striped skinnies and black booties worked perfectly. For an unexpected touch, I used my faux fur cross-body bag.

I’ve always loved bowler hats because it has so much character but with my short pixie haircut, I am even more of a fan! This dark red, almost maroon is the perfect pop of colour. Since I didn’t want the hat to be too overpowering, adding a little more texture to my hair by curling it was a good solution!SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESSAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESAren’t these boots beautiful!? Not only are they wonderfully made with all the details, I got them on sale for $37.50 from its original price of $150. Such a steal! That is why shopping in America is always better than in Canada.SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES1) Knit Grey Shirt: Nike (Gifted) (similar here) | 2) Wool/Cashmere Blend Sweater: Club Monaco (similar here) | 3) Striped Skinnies: Levi’s | 4) Boots: Kensie | 5) Bowler Hat: Minimum | 6) Spike Necklace: Store in Granville St. (similar here) | 7) Faux Fur Bag: Co-Lab
