Merry Christmas!

Christmas is best celebrated with family & friends, good food and the exciting tradition of opening presents. Our Christmas Eve celebration consisted of a late, but huge dinner, hours of good laughter, playing games & waiting for the clock to strike midnight.

Improperly Proper

On days I remember that I’m a girl, I put on a few coats of mascara and tint on my lips. Proper with a button down, but remaining edgy with the unexpected excess of stripes.

Stripes on stripes, if done right, is an interesting and chic trend. A mixture of horizontal & vertical stripes is key, as well as the differences between the size. Do not pair stripes of the same size, otherwise it will become one, hot mess! Remember to also keep the rest of the outfit basic and plain.

Knit Racerback

I’m starting to fall in love with knits, but when it comes to maintenance, I’m not much of a fan. I have ruined way too many, expensive pieces of clothing due to laziness. Although most ‘Dry Clean Only’ items are made of the best fabrics, they are quite inconvenient.

Enough exposure of my Snorlax personality and more on this knit racerback. Knit is a technique often used for thick sweaters, but have you heard of a (little) see-through, racerback? And in a mixture of blue & red? I’m sold. This is why Club Monaco is one of my favourite stores.

DSC04383Not many people wear halter necks because one must find the ‘right’ kind in order to rock it. Personally, I find that my shoulders are on the broader side. If the straps on this top were any thinner, my shoulders would appear broader. The depth of halter tops is another factor to consider. Some styles are made with round necks and this constrictive construction is not flattering to shorter necks. Therefore, if you want an illusion of a longer neck, choose pieces with a deeper neckline. Try on & experiment with several halter tops in order to learn and find what’s ideal for your own body type.DSC04391DSC04392DSC04386

On a completely different side note, I went to Don Day again! Samgyeopsal wrapped with jalapeño and gochujang is so good, but incredibly spicy!DSC04401 Oh Calgary, you looked pretty tonight.DSC04397

Winter Has Come

In all black with a hint of bloody red makes me seem like a walking Bubonic Plague; or at least that’s how I’ve been feeling these past few days. Sickness has struck me and I think it’s trying to tell me that I should be better prepared in keeping myself warm now that winter has come. A trip to Winners this weekend and voilà, a wool scarf and leather gloves that cost me less than $30. If there’s anything I like about winter, it’s that I get to wear leather, wool and suede.

Wake up for Alexander Wang x H&M!

I’m not the most affectionate but if I ever wake up unbelievably early for you, that’s my way of saying ‘I care about you.’ That is exactly what waking up at 5:30 this morning was for: to get in line for the Alexander Wang x H&M collaboration. Since Wang is my sister’s favourite designer and she unfortunately had a work meeting to attend to, I was her go-to girl. Perhaps I don’t mind acting as if I was Andy from The Devil Wears Prada.DSC03694.1It was still very dark when I arrived at The Core; the only H&M branch in Calgary that hosted the event. Upon arrival, there was already a line-up. Although not until a few more minutes later, I realized that wristbands were to be picked up instead to indicate a time of return. At the sight of 10:15 (as the event begins at 8:00), I had an immediate, mini heart attack. So what better way to kill time and make good use of it too by having an Americano? Caffè Artigiano down 4th Avenue was a perfect place to calm down and study. Even better, they played French jazz and classical music!

DSC03682 DSC03684

DSC03685Post AW x H&M shopping was a breath of fresh air. Even though I didn’t manage to obtain her most wanted items, I was at the very least relieved that I even had anything to purchase by the end of it.

The event made me feel inclined to channel my inner Wang: monochromatic and tight. I have been loving the illusion of wearing a unitard; best achieved with a black, tucked in top and black bottoms. And why not black shoes too? To add a little more personality, throw in unique pieces, keeping the colour palette in mind.

Korea(town?)

After a terrible Geography midterm and stressful few weeks, a dose of fun and relaxation with family & friends was much needed. What better way to do so than jokes over Korean dinner and finally, a taste of soju!

Since 2006, I’ve been interested in all things Korean: food, culture, and fashion. A month ago, I went to Market Collective and picked up this vintage, Korean branded coat from Joyce’s Closet. I fell in love with the eccentric pop of pink and the oversized fit. To keep the coat as main point of interest, I paired it with a very simple black dress.

Geometry and Patterns

Foremost, excuse the amateur, overexposed/dark photos because I lacked a photographer (my sister) today.

Mixing different shapes and patterns is one of the trickiest things to do, yet when well executed, is purely genius. I am still experimenting with this trend and it is indeed difficult. For an attempt, I paired this geometric button down with my printed sling hobo bag; a classic combination that I’ve tried before. Though the addition of colourful and geometric earrings made this outfit a little more of crazy… in a good way (at least I’d like to think so).

What I love about these earrings is that they are by locally made (by Adrian Martinus in collaboration with Anne Tranholm) and eco-friendly because they are made from recycled materials! This picture does very little justice at such an incredible piece.

Double A

Another day, another button down. Button downs are one of my favourites because one could wear it both casually and in formal occasions. It is a classic and timeless piece that can be worn all year: by itself in the summer or underneath a knit sweater for when the weather becomes cooler. I am especially fond of this short sleeved button down because of its crisp collar, shoulder padded sleeves and pastel pink colour! Supporting Canada with Double A: American Apparel.

My Idea of Streetwear

As much as I love my button downs and girly dresses, I’m also a big fan of rompers! Most ladies find rompers inconvenient, but personally, I don’t. It is a fun and comfortable piece!
SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES Even though the romper itself has print, the addition of a differently printed cardigan does not clash because of the colours identical between them. To keep the romper and cardigan as point of interest, I kept it minimal in wearing simple, black accessories.SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES1) Elephant Romper: Angie | 2) Snake Printed Cardigan: Maison Scotch (similar here) | 3) Boots: Dolce Vita (similar here) | 4) Backpack: Vintage from Mom | 5) Round Sunglasses: Local Store in Calgary

Tweed, Quilted and Suede

Going to Central Park meant not overdressing. Ok, perhaps I was still overdressed but question is, when am I not? The most casual outfit that I packed was composed of a cotton t-shirt and shorts.
