Moving On!

I am moving on from this blog to a new one! I didn’t think that I would discontinue this blog, but it’s for the better. This (hopefully) permanent one will be more refined, better photographed and ‘professional’ than raizamaev. Thank you to everyone who has supported me here, but I will be more than grateful if you continue to support me on my new site.

To end all curiosity, it’s: http://www.lapetitegarconne.org/

Goodbye 2014

I ended 2014 with working an 8-hour shift and spending the rest of the night counting down its end with family and friends. At this moment, I am lying down on my bed and even though my body is ready to rest, my mind is unable to keep its peace until I write this blog post.

The beginning of 2014 was quite unwelcoming and too many tears were shed for quite a while. Even if it wasn’t exactly smooth sailing from the climax of ‘tragedy’, I recovered. That is the word of my year exactly, ‘recovery’. Returning home to family and attempting to re-adjust to which once was familiarity was most difficult. Old ways of living alone in Vancouver had to be forgotten and trying to get accustomed to rules again did not come easy. I refused to make friends because I rebuilt my barrier from trust. I found my old self again: hidden behind books, strumming strings or passing hours in front of the computer screen. I admit I wasn’t exactly happy, but I was at the very least, no longer in tears.

If there were things I learned from 2014, it was finding my weaknesses:

1) It’s not wrong to be kind, but do not let people forget you’re human too.

2) Be honest with your emotions, but carry it out with control and poise.

3) Do not fall in love so easily. Neither should you wait for it.

4) Stop assuming. Stop expecting.

It has been years since I’ve made myself a New Year’s Resolution. My sisters have called me ‘hipster’ for not doing so, and despite this title, I stand my ground. I believe that change comes in increments. The introduction of a new year should not be exclusive to the beginning of change or establishment of goals. We are given our whole lives to constantly learn and make changes therefore, take it day by day.

Even though it’s officially 2015, I am only ready now to say goodbye to 2014. It was a year of emotions and lessons and for all, I’m grateful for. It has brought me closer to finding myself and figuring out what I strive to become. I am beyond thankful for everything and everyone in my life. Cheers to a new one!

Got Beat

I got beat on Boxing Day, beat by exhaustion. I woke up awfully early to avoid the crowd and long lines as best I can, which was not much of a success. On the bright side, I managed to purchase $644 worth of items for ~$240, 63% worth of savings!

Tips for future Boxing Days:

1) The food court is probably one of the busiest so grab a bite before leaving your house or eat at a nearby restaurant because good luck on finding an unoccupied table.

2) Wear comfy (and easy to change out of) clothes. Nothing is more frustrating than trying to ninja through the crowd in uncomfortable clothing, or when trying on clothes.

3) Avoid using large satchels because carrying one around would be too much of a hassle. Stick to backpacks or mini cross-body bags so that you can maneuver around easier. You’re also doing everyone else a favour, trust me.

Merry Christmas!

Christmas is best celebrated with family & friends, good food and the exciting tradition of opening presents. Our Christmas Eve celebration consisted of a late, but huge dinner, hours of good laughter, playing games & waiting for the clock to strike midnight.

Christmas Came Early

This morning, I ran out of the house in my pyjamas as soon as I found out that the package from my best friends has come! I was truly ecstatic & extremely grateful for having the friends that I do. This could not have come at a better time to cheer me up, and tear up, at the same time. Merci beaucoup mes meilleurs amis!

Nordstrom’s changeroom’s waiting room (got that?) is extremely posh! I suppose they have done right in making sure the husbands and boyfriends are waiting in comfort, or broke girlfriends like I.

Straying away from my usual black and loose fitting clothes results in this. For a more refined side of my style, I wore a bright jumper with a subtly coloured button down and a pair of classic jeans. To escape a rather ‘basic palette’, the addition of a statement necklace gives an interesting neckline. Brown, leather accessories are a must in any woman’s closet to finish off an outfit.

Stress, Evanesco!

After my last final this morning, stress has (temporarily) disappeared from my life. To celebrate, I went to fangirl over Legolas… I mean, watch The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies! For someone who is not the biggest fan of movies with plenty of war scenes, this movie is a definite exception! You must see it and I’ll gladly re-watch it with you ; )

For today’s casual outfit, I resorted to denim on denim. Personally, I find that the best ways to wear this trend are a) Pairing separates that are of identical shade for a cohesive look or 2) Contrasting with black or white denim with the regular hue of blue. Finally, stick to basics and neutral colours for the rest of the outfit to not distract from the tough, denim look.

Never again will I order regular nachos if I have the option of pulled pork. This was the best movie food I’ve ever had!

And for dinner, Lebanese seesh.

Day for Exploration: Inglewood

It has been ages since I’ve wanted to pay a visit to one of Calgary’s coolest neighbourhoods: Inglewood. And since I’m an avid fan of cafés, I had to finally check out Gravity! The interior was absolutely posh and the food was superb. Is it a surprise that I didn’t order coffee? Go figure, they served Phil & Sebastian.

DSC04592I have a terrible habit of going shopping when I’m stressed, most specifically during exam times. Inglewood is definitely the place to go for all things local and unique! Of all the stores I visited, my top three favourites are listed below:

1) Reworks: This store is the absolute coolest! They are all about artistic innovations made from recycled materials, whilst supporting small businesses and/or local artists.

2) Olivier’s: Sweet tooth got you craving? This is heaven for all chocolate and candy lovers! Upon entrance, you are easily drawn in by the scrumptious whiff of their fresh, local goods. I made my last purchases of gifts & a little something for myself and family.

3) Phoenix Comics: How could I resist not going inside this haven of all things geek? What I appreciated about this particular comic store was it was well-organized, unlike most that are cluttered. It made maneuvering around and finding things easier. Also, if you collect pins like I do, they have plenty of awesome ones! They also have a vintage, yet pimp Ronald McDonald statue.

Since stores are individually built, prepare well to dress in warmth if you are to visit in the middle of winter like I. Layers will do.

Improperly Proper

On days I remember that I’m a girl, I put on a few coats of mascara and tint on my lips. Proper with a button down, but remaining edgy with the unexpected excess of stripes.

Stripes on stripes, if done right, is an interesting and chic trend. A mixture of horizontal & vertical stripes is key, as well as the differences between the size. Do not pair stripes of the same size, otherwise it will become one, hot mess! Remember to also keep the rest of the outfit basic and plain.

1000 Views Giveaway!

On July 25th, 2014, I started this blog as a way to share my interests and creativity, focusing mainly on personal style. I have had my share of blogs, that even I am unaware of how many there are, though this is the only one that I keep and have kept up-to-date because this one does not feel ‘obligatory’, as it’s something I actually enjoy doing. More importantly, knowing that there are people who actually view my blog is an even better incentive to keep going.

There were times when I wanted to stop posting altogether because nothing that I posted seemed ‘good enough’ in comparison to other people’s blogs that were more refined and essentially, way better. Though self-pity, nor jealousy, were good reasons to stop what I love doing, and they also had to start somewhere, right?

The support of family and friends have contributed to the continuation of this blog, as well as compliments that I’ve received from strangers. I may not be published in any major sites or paper, nor recognized by any major businesses, but I’m beginning to expand my network by connecting with local artists and exposing their works through social media. My pictures having been regrammed by two, local fashion businesses is a good start.

Exactly four months and a day later, I reached 1000 views, people viewing from 23 different countries! I am no Song of Style, nor Bryanboy, but I’m happy. I don’t know if I’ll ever get there but for now, I didn’t even know I would get here.

To show my appreciation, I am doing a giveaway on my Instagram account! Simply like and comment on this photo. As a supporter of all things local and a lover of poetry, I am to share exactly that: a 100g of my favourite Creamy Earl Grey tea + matcha & crispy rice chocolate bar from Naked Leaf and a collection of poems from Canadian writers that I bought from Pages!

Best of luck and once again, thank you!

Day Out in Wang

I finished my first exam this morning and since my next and last isn’t for another while, I decided to make a visit to Kensington: Naked Leaf & Pages! Teas and books are always good presents.

I finally wore my Alexander Wang x HM purchase, that is this cool jacket! There is no other way to dress a Wang piece than with monochrome, or in my case, all black. Unaware, the works of flash brings out a surprise of the reflective detail embedded in this jacket! Très cool, non?

DSC04514 DSC04519DSC04507 DSC04509Almost everything I wore today are either limited edition, unavailable online or vintage, so no links for tonight. However, I hope you found inspiration!
